Charles Leclerc has explained why he lost control of his Ferrari nine laps from the end of the Mexican GP, which sent him off the road at the Peraltada corner and cost him 2nd place from Lando Norris.
As Carlos Sainz in the other Ferrari disappeared into the horizon to take a commanding victory in Mexico City, in the latter part of the 20th Formula 1 race of the year the performance of Charles Leclerc’s other SF-24 began to decline, and Lando Norris closing in with McLaren who showed much better race pace in the second stint.

I was trying to do everything possible to make him overheat (his tires) behind me, and keep him behind me as much as possible. So I tried to make the best exit (from the last corner) that I could.
I could see that it was very close to that turn, but I missed the tail of the car. In such a case you forget about Lando and just hope that you will be able to regain control.
I had an oversteer, and when I recovered from it, I had another oversteer to the other side. And I thought “F***”. But luckily… Then I was just hoping to get the car to the finish and get that third place.” added Charles Leclerc.
In his interview immediately after the finish, at the Foro Sol stadium, the Monegasque said: “It was a difficult match. In the first stint we had to check the temperatures (of the tires), which was difficult, but we raced the best we could.
All three days I was a little behind, and third place was the best I could achieve from my side. Carlos had an amazing race, and it was a good three days overall for the team – and that’s very positive.
We work super well as a team. Here and some matches we are at the level we should be. The constructors’ championship is still our goal, and with three days like this we are getting closer. I hope we will continue in this direction and win the championship”concluded the 25-year-old.
