Kaide Gordon made his first appearance for Norwich City in more than three weeks on Sunday amid suggestions Liverpool will recall the forward in January. The 20-year-old has now made nine appearances for the Canaries since joining them on a season-long loan back at the end of August.

However, he has only started once and had failed to even make Norwich’s matchday squad for their three previous games prior to Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley. Instead, he had turned out for the club’s Under-21s against PSV Eindhoven in the Premier LeagueInternational Cup at the start of the month.

Introduced as an 83rd-minute substitute soon after the Clarets had taken the lead,Gordon was ultimately unable to help the Canaries rescue a share of the spoils.

And given his lack of game-time at Carrow Road, his future remains uncertain in East Anglia regardless of his recent recall to Johannes Hoff Thorup’s matchday squad.

The ECHO reported last week that Liverpoolare planning to hold talks with Norwich over Gordon and have not ruled out a recall ahead of another Championship loan move. Meanwhile, it’s understood that there is an expectation at the Canaries that the youngster will return to Merseyside.

However, the Reds, who would ideally like Gordon to feature more prominently, are yet to make a definitive call either way ahead of further discussions with Norwich next month.

Canaries boss has Thorup recently said of the situation: “I don’t think I will consider now whether he should go back in January because I see such a busy schedule. So I can easily see that he could make his way into the team again if he’s training well and doing his stuff like he’s supposed to do, then there is a way in for him.

“At the end, it is also up to him in his career what his next step should be. If he wants to stay here and fight, I would be more than happy about it because we need good players, and he is definitely a good player. He’s struggling to get into the team with all it takes physically and especially tactically.

“As a football team, we need more than 20 players to create the competition that we want to have. It’s a natural thing, and for the moment, he is out of the team because I prioritise some of the others.”

Gordon has featured for just 172 minutes for Norwich since joining the club, scoring one goal. Predominantly only called upon as a late substitute when utilised over the last two months, he has also made three appearances for the club’s Under-21s.
