Panagiotis Kalaitzakis stated that FIBA and EuroLeague should soon find a solution so that the matches of the clubs do not coincide with the windows, while he also praised Zalgiris ahead of tomorrow’s (22/11) match.
Panathinaikos AKTOR will face Zalgiris tomorrow (22/11) (20:00, Novasports Prime and LIVE from SPORT24) in Kaunas for the 11th matchday of the EuroLeague, without Ergin Ataman on his bench, since on the same day the experienced technician will be in that of the Turkish national team for the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers.
This was one of the issues discussed by Panagiotis Kalaitzakis, since the “greens” will not have their coach – but also Dimitris Moraitis and Cedi Osman – due to the FIBA windows, with the international forward stating that it is important to have soon a solution.
Panagiotis Kalaitzakis stated in detail:
About how inconvenient it is for international players that on the same day there are matches of National and EuroLeague teams: “I don’t want to get involved in this, it’s not my job. There are other officials in the matter of FIBA with the Euroleague. I think a solution must be found. We have a game on the same day and the Turkish national team – with our coach – has the Greek national team, we are international and we all want to be by their side and support them. Someday a solution will have to be found and I hope it will be done soon”.
For the match against Zalgiris: “Like every year, at home, Zalgiris is a very competitive team. This year they started the season very well at 6-1. They lost a couple of consecutive losses. We are in a very good place, to play one more away game, in a very difficult home ground. We are ready to get another double”.
For what Panathinaikos AKTOR must do to win: “To be focused for 40 minutes, to play our basketball, to get energy. When you play in a venue like this, a good half or a good period is not enough. We have to play 40 minutes of the basketball we know, to be focused, to get energy.
Our coach is missing and we have some absences, but for that we have a roster as we have shown in the past. I think we will show up ready and get another double.”
