‘I’m not planning my retirement from football, I’m just enjoying it’

Cristiano Ronaldo, despite approaching 40 years of age, continues to enjoy football and shows dedication and passion for the sport.

Speaking after Portugal’s win over Poland and the stunning goal he scored, the Portuguese superstar indicated that he is not thinking about retiring from football. As he stated: “My retirement will come, maybe in a year or two… I don’t know, we’ll see.”

“I’m not planning my retirement! I’m just enjoying football, I’m about to turn 40 and I still love football”said Ronaldo characteristically. Then he added: “When I feel like I don’t have the same energy and passion, then I’ll take the plunge and say it’s not for me anymore.”

He explained that for now he is fully focused on continuing to fight and win titles, stating that: “Right now, I’m still fighting to win, I love to play and I’m enjoying it.”

Despite the many records he has achieved in his career, Ronaldo does not seem to be focused on achieving any specific goal, such as 1000 goals in his career. “1000 goals would be nice to achieve… but no, I’m not thinking about it or aiming for it”he said, noting that the enjoyment of the game is what motivates him more than any number or personal performance.
