Winning an eighth title with Ferrari is “a hugely motivating goal” for Lewis Hamilton, and that requires the seven-time British champion to do “magic” at the Scuderia over the next three years, former Haas F1 boss Gunter Steiner has said.
Hamilton will start next three days (October 18-20) in Austin, USA in the first of his final six races with Mercedes in Formula 1, but as this season draws to a close, increasingly the Briton is at the center of talks about his transfer to Ferrari in 2025.
And at the heart of these discussions is one single question: will Lewis succeed in becoming the Scuderia’s first champion in almost two decades since Kimi Raikkonen in 2007, will he be able to achieve the unique feat of an 8th championship in F1 with cavallino on the chest.
Speaking on Formula 1’s ‘Beyond the Grid’ podcast, former Italian Haas F1 director Gunter Steiner spoke of the huge impact that Lewis Hamilton’s title win in the Scuderia’s colors would have.
“I think he wants to try to do magic, i.e. bring her Ferrari back to challenging for titles, and I think that’s the goal that gives him tremendous motivation.”Steiner said.
“I haven’t spoken to him but you can tell that’s his motivation: ‘I’m the best of all time, I’ve won 7 championships, what more can I do?’ If he does a good job and wins the title with the Ferrari they will put him in the Vatican”he added.

The importance of such a title, added the Italian, takes on greater weight because of the legend of the Scuderia: “I believe that the Ferrari without her Formula 1 is not ferrari, and the Formula 1 without her Ferrari is not Formula 1. This is the magic that accompanies her ‘little horse’ Ferrari and if you have the opportunity to be her driver you are in a very good position.
(Hamilton) is also very close to Fred Wasser. Lewis and Fred know each other well, and have won a lot in the smaller divisions. They are on the same wavelength, they can achieve a lot together, and if they do it will be very good for both of them.” Guder Steiner concluded.
