Today’s (17/11) Solidarity GP in Barcelona, Spain will decide this year’s MotoGP World Champion. Jorge Martin with a lead of 19 points is favorite for his first title, while Peco Banaia is bidding for his third in a row. See which scenarios crown the Spaniard and which the Italian champion.

After Banaia’s win and Martin’s 3rd place in yesterday’s Sprint race, the factory Ducati Italian cut Pramac Ducati’s Spaniard’s lead at the top of the MotoGP championship to 19 points.

As a result, Martin is the big favorite to win the title in today’s Solidarity GP (15:00, Cosmote Sport 5 HD), as the Barcelona race has been called which took the place of the Valencia GP due to the tragedy of the floods in city that traditionally hosts the MotoGP season finale.

If Banaia – who starts from pole position – takes the 25 points victory today, Martin will only need 7 points to secure the title – meaning the Spaniard only needs to finish in 9th place. And if the Ducati Italian does not manage to win and is limited to second place, then even 14th place is enough for Martin.

Should Banaia win and Martin finish 10th, the two riders would be tied at the top of the standings. In this scenario the championship will be won by the Italian, as Peco Banaia has more wins (11) this year than Jorge Martin (3).

If the champion of the last two years does not finish in the top two, then he has no hope of defending his crown. And Martin needs a place in the top eight, regardless of Banaia’s result, to clinch the title in his final race with Pramac and Ducati – and start his big campaign with factory Aprilia in 2025.
