The F1 Commission, under the FIA director of cars Nikolas Tombazis and with the participation of the ten team managers and the CEO of Formula 1 Stefano Domenicali, convened for the 5th time this year and proceeded with a series of decisions for the Formula 1 seasons of 2025 and ’26.

At the meeting, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, issues of racing, technical and financial content were discussed between the three parties (FIA – F1 – Teams).

Starting with the racing issues, the topic of the Sprint race for the young and new drivers of the sport was again discussed.

The idea is that this race will take place immediately after the end of the season, in Abu Dhabi – in the immediate days after the last GP of the year – with the participation of young drivers who have not started more than 2 Formula 1 GPs in their career .

Such a meeting will allow the young drivers to show their worth and the team principals to see it, as available test days are now few and far between in Formula 1.

Earlier this year the three sides disagreed – on the financial issue – over organizing the new drivers’ Sprint at the end of this year, but at yesterday’s meeting in Geneva they agreed to look into it thoroughly for 2025.

Staying on racing matters, the F1 Commission also agreed a new restart protocol when the first start of a GP is abandoned, as well as a new pit closure protocol when a team retires one of its cars.

Technically, the biggest of the several changes decided for 2025 is the introduction of a driver’s climate control system in the cars, which will be activated when the drivers are exposed to extreme high temperature and humidity conditions – as in last year’s Qatar GP. This system has already been tested, with encouraging results.

As far as financial regulations are concerned, the F1 Committee approved additional measures to extend the exemption of costs for sustainability initiatives from the budget limit – to which each team is subject – in 2025.

Regarding 2026, the technical regulations leading to finalization were discussed again – with the overall targets for the initial performance level of the cars to “likely to be achieved”according to the information.

It was also decided to incorporate gender-neutral language into all Regulations, as part of the FIA’s commitment to incorporating this language into all areas of its activity.

Finally, measures to strengthen confidentiality provisions during investigations and other procedural matters were discussed.

We remind you that in order to finalize these decisions in the regulations, they will have to be voted on at the next meeting of the World Council of Motorsport.
