‘The idea that Amorim has for football will bring us success’

Ruben Amorim is now the sixth successive manager of Manchester United in the post-Alex Ferguson era and the big bet for Sporting’s reformer in the last four years is one: to achieve what his five predecessors (Moges, Van Gaal, Mourinho) failed to do , Solskjaer and Ten Haag) and bring the club back to the top of England.

“This was the right time for him to come and bring his energy, his ability and his knowledge of football because he did something special at Sporting.

I watched almost all Sporting matches. Amorim brought excitement back to the club. He brought quite a few good things to the club and I hope he does the same here because sometimes one person can change the energy in a venue.

Sporting were almost 20 years without a league, he led them to win the league again and did it twice in four years with a really young team.

We hope it will be a successful time for us“, the United captain said of his compatriot, and added:

“From a tactical point of view he has done very good things. Obviously he cannot transfer what he did at Sporting to us. We have different players and different ways of playing.

But I am sure that the idea he has for football will bring success. For me what stands out is the connection he has with the players.

When a manager leaves a team in the middle of the season and you see the way they say goodbye and treat him, it shows a great character who gives everything to the players.

There are incidents where players are struggling and he goes to a press conference to stand up for them and give them a chance to shine. He had a young team and he needed to do that. Let’s hope he does the same for us.”
