FORMULA 1
After the first of nine races (6 GPs and 3 Sprints) of this year’s Formula 1 title, Max Verstappen extended his lead over Lando Norris for the drivers’ championship by 2 points with his victory in the USA GP Sprint and Red Bull has reduced its gap to McLaren in the constructors by an equal amount.
Max Verstappen’s victory, his first since the Spanish GP in June, extended his championship lead from Norris to 54 points in the first meeting of this year’s 19th Formula 1 US GP.
Norris didn’t have the speed today to answer the Dutchman, and he lost another point on the final lap by locking up his brakes at the first corner of the final sprint – allowing Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz to steal 2nd place from him.
With Sergio Perez and Oscar Piastri not scoring in the Austin Sprint, due to their mishaps in yesterday’s Sprint Qualifying, Red Bull Racing respectively reduced their gap to constructors’ championship leader McLaren to 39 points.
Ferrari, by contrast, with the biggest harvest in this Sprint, gained 12 points with Saint’s 2nd and Saint Leclerc’s 4th and kept their hopes of the teams’ title alive, sitting 30 points behind RBR.
