As a result, it is speculated that Lindelöf could be on his way out of the club during the upcoming January transfer window.
Manchester United, currently facing financial constraints and not in an ideal position with regards to their Player Salary Report (PSR), are reportedly open to the idea of letting Lindelöf leave on loan in the winter transfer window. This move would serve a dual purpose: it would alleviate the financial burden of his wages and provide the club with a loan fee, even though Lindelöf’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.
While the player is still contracted until June 2025, Manchester United are eager to minimize their financial outlay on players who aren’t in manager Erik ten Hag’s immediate plans. Even modest financial gains from a loan deal would be seen as beneficial by the club.
Leicester City has emerged as one of the top potential destinations for Lindelöf. The club’s manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has a history with the player, is believed to be leading the charge for his signing. Van Nistelrooy, who previously worked with Lindelöf at PSV Eindhoven, could be keen to reunite with the 30-year-old defender in the Championship. A loan move would provide Lindelöf with regular playing time, which could help him stay sharp ahead of his contract’s expiration in the summer.
