Making it clear that he will not stay in Formula 1 until the age of 40, Max Verstappen has said his next contract will be his last in motorsport. The Dutchman “lit fires” for his next team, but he did not rule out a new agreement with Red Bull.
Despite only being 26 years old, and now entering his prime racing years, Max Verstappen marks a decade in Formula 1 next year – and has said on numerous occasions that he won’t be around for many more years in the sport.
Now, the Dutchman has reiterated that he will not still be in F1 at the age of 40 like Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, making it clear that the new contract he will sign after (or even before) the end of his current one with Red Bull Racing, at the end of 2028, will be his last in Formula 1.
Toto Wolff has confirmed that he has claimed the Dutchman’s services for 2025, and could do so again in the future. Also, Max is also considered one of Aston Martin F1’s coveted targets. However, he did not rule out his next contract being, again, with RBR.
“My next step, if there is one, will also be my last” said Verstappen speaking to the Italian network Sky Italia. “This may mean I renew my existing contract as well. Everything is possible at this moment”.
Multiple and reliable sources say the Dutchman has terms in his contract with RBR that allow him to break it before the end of 2028, and when asked about it he was cryptic:“Maybe yes, maybe not”, said the 26-year-old.
“However, that’s not something I’m thinking about at the moment, because there are so many things I need to improve this year, and everything that’s coming in the future is still a long way off. There is no such issue at the moment”he added.
And speaking about the possibility of him staying at Red Bull, he added: “I’ve been part of this team for a long time. In the end, every driver of it F1 he wants to win. It’s very easy to change teams, but I don’t want that for my career. I don’t want to be a member of four or five different teams.
I want to build a long and stable relationship with everyone in the team and I want to feel at home somewhere. Changing teams is not something that suits me and is not something that I want to do at this stage of my career.”concluded Max Verstappen.
