The football leaps of Christos Mouzakitis and the important dates for him, from December 2021 when he signed his first professional contract with Olympiacos until today.
A dreamlike route, as if it had come out of a comic book of previous decades. Christos Mouzakitis has not made simple steps of progress, but leaps in recent years, that perhaps even he himself has not had time to process what he has achieved. However, this is a composed player, great character, strong mentally and very mature, even though he is not yet 18 years old.
Born on Christmas Day 2006, the left-footed midfielder took his first footballing steps at Poseidon Heraklion Attica (as a goalkeeper), spent a short time in the infrastructure departments of AEK and joined the Olympiakos Academy at the age of 9 (at Christmas 2015) . Initially, he played in the position of left half-back, but in the U12 team he started to be used in the central area and it was something he really wanted to do with Luka Modric as his role model.
Then everything went its way, and everything happened very quickly. Mouzakitis celebrated winning the championship with Olympiakos’ K17 and K19 teams and last April he was crowned European Champion with the red and whites by winning the UEFA Youth League. But it’s worth dwelling on certain moments of the young ace’s terrific run and how quickly things have progressed.
December 3, 2021: He signed his first professional contract with Olympiacos at the age of 14 years and 11 months. He became the youngest professional in the history of the Piraeus team.
December 4, 2021: The central midfielder made his official debut in the Olympiakos U19 team, three weeks before he turned 15, in the match against OFI (1-1) in Heraklion, Crete, playing as a substitute in the last quarter of the match.
April 27, 2022: He made his debut for the National Youth team in the game in the away win (2-0) against Slovenia.
September 3, 2022: He scored his first goal in the league with Olympiakos K19, opening the scoring in the 4-0 victory over Ionikos. One week later he scored again, this time against Volos (2-0). The box to box footballer had a total of 39 appearances, 10 goals and five assists with the K19 of the Piraeus team.
September 13, 2022: He made his debut with the U17 team of Greece in the away game against Hungary (0-2).
October 8, 2022: He scored for the first time in the shirt with the national emblem in the game Kosovo U17 – Greece U17 0-5 playing as a “ten”. Three days earlier he had his first assist (on Jima’s goal) in the away match against Finland (1-2).
April 12, 2023: He made his debut in Olympiakos B’ in the game against Episkopi (3-0) in Rentis, for Super League 2, playing as a substitute in the last half hour of the match. And this at the age of 16.5 years. With Olympiakos B’, he had a total of 16 matches and one assist.
April 29, 2023: He became Champion with the Olympiakos U19 team.
June 11, 2023: He celebrated winning the championship with the Olympiakos K17 team.
July 1, 2023: Renewal of his contract with PAE Olympiacos until the summer of 2026.
October 4, 2023: He played for the first time in the Youth League, for a quarter, playing as a substitute in the game against Lecce (3-1) in Renti.
November 8, 2023: Scored a goal and had an assist in the Youth League away win against Kampala (3-0).
November 15, 2023: He played for the first time with the U19 team of Greece in the away game against Belarus (0-1).
November 29, 2023: He scored twice against Kampala (4-0) in the game in Karaiskakis.
March 3, 2024: He had a goal and an assist in Olympiacos’ K19 home match against Volos (4-1).
March 12, 2024: Opened the scoring against Bayern in Munich (3-1) for the quarter-finals of the Youth League.
April 22, 2024: Scored Olympiakos’ first goal in a 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Youth League final in Nyon, Switzerland. In total, he had nine appearances, six goals and one assist for the red and whites in the Youth League last season.
April 22, 2024: He was crowned European Champion (Youth League) with the Olympiakos K19 team.
May 25, 2024: He celebrated winning the championship with the red and white U19 team.
July 19, 2024: He made his unofficial debut in the first team of Olympiakos in the friendly game against Ajax (0-1) in the Netherlands, playing in the second half.
July 20, 2024: He played for the first time as a starter, in the friendly match against Malin (2-0) and was replaced in the 69th minute by Bakula. In fact, he scored his first goal with the first team of Olympiakos, with an amazing left-footed shot (5′) outside the wide area, sending the ball into the goalkeeper’s right window.
August 24, 2024: He fought throughout the match against Flamengo (1-2) in Brazil, for the Under 20 Intercontinental Cup.
September 10, 2024: He played his first game for the National Hopes in a 4-0 away win against the Faroe Islands, at the age of 17 years and 8 months.
September 29, 2024: He made his official debut in the Olympiakos men’s team in the home win against Atromitos (2-0) where he assisted El Kaabi’s goal. And this at the age of 17 years, 9 months and 4 days.
October 3, 2024: He was a key player in his European debut with the first team of the red and whites in the game against Braga (3-0) in Karaiskakis.
October 15, 2024: He had the first assist with Elpidon National Team (on Kostoula’s goal) in the away match against Croatia (2-3).
November 5, 2024: He was called up for the first time to the Greek Men’s National Team for the games against England and Ireland, at the age of just 17 years and 11 months.
November 7, 2024: El Kaabi’s goal in the match against Rangers (1-1) started from his feet, which is why the Moroccan gave him credit, as well as Chiquinhos for the header-assist.
Mouzakitis is now set to make his debut for the Greek Men’s National Team, either in the match against England at the OAKA on Thursday (11/14) or in the game against Finland in Helsinki (11/17).
However, the best for Mouzakitis is yet to come, as he has not yet turned 18, and he hopes at the end of the season to celebrate winning the championship with Olympiakos and to go as far as possible in the Europa League with the red and whites.
And the way things are going, it won’t be long before the young central midfielder is asked to sign an early extension of his contract with Piraeus PAE.
