Juan Mata isn’t done with his soccer career, but he’s already taken the first step toward hanging up his boots by becoming a co-owner of San Diego, which will join the MLS in 2025.
Juan Mata became the first active player to acquire shares in an MLS team as it was announced that he has joined the ownership of San Diego, a team that will join the league in 2025.
The Spanish international midfielder continues to play football in Australia for Western Sydney. Mata becomes only the second soccer player to own an MLS club, as David Beckham is president and co-owner of Inter Miami.
