American Hollywood star Keanu Reeves took part in the Toyota GR Cup event at the Indianapolis circuit in the cockpit of a racing GR86 – but his racing “baptism” was not easy.
Keanu Reeves is no stranger to the world of motorsport. In recent decades he has been a frequent visitor to the GPs, and also had the central role of the narrator in the documentary released a year ago by the Disney+ platform about the “miracle” of the Brawn GP in 2009.
In 2009 and 2010, he also took part in the two celebrity races of the Indycars Championship at Long Beach, Los Angeles – and even emerged victorious in the first of those two years.

But this past weekend it was time for the 60-year-old movie star’s first professional car race, in the Toyota GR Cup, on the sidelines of the Indianapolis 8 Hours GT race.
The 35 drivers taking part were in identical Toyota GR86s, which had been converted into racing cars – adding a stock gearbox, sports suspension, slick tires and roll cage and safety seats – by Toyota Racing Development – the Japanese racing arm in North Carolina, USA.

Although Reeves’ goal was primarily to entertain, the outcome of his effort was marred by a 4-a-ke he had on his own about midway through the match (totaling 45 minutes). Nevertheless, he returned to the track to finish in 25th place, out of 35 participants.
The previous day he had started 31st, and in the race he got as high as 21st, even avoiding a collision with other cars on the first lap of the race. And then came his tet-a-ke.
Keanu Reeves’ Toyota GR86, which carried the No.92, was painted in the colors of the graphic novel “The Book of Elsewhere”. Following this speed racing stint, Reeves will be heading to Los Angeles for the 30th anniversary celebration of the movie “Speed” on Tuesday 10/8.
