John Van Sip has left the position of technical advisor at Ajax since Monday (11/11), with the management of the Amsterdam team making known the solution to the collaboration between the two sides a year after it began.
John Van Sip had served Ajax for 11 years (1981-1992) as a football player, and not long ago the full time arrived to offer the team of his heart from another position.
In October 2023, he took over as caretaker manager during a difficult period for the team with poor results and then took the anointing of the first manager until the end of the season, to move last summer to another position, that of technical advisor to “Aiades”.
However, the two sides’ relationship lasted just over a year after Ajax’s farewell to Van Sip was announced on Monday (11/11), with the Amsterdam club saying the decision was made by mutual consent.
“It’s a shame this season didn’t turn out the way we had in mind. Last season it was basically about my role as a coach. It has been difficult months, both on a sporting and private level, in which we achieved the goal of securing European football through 5th place.
I would like to thank Ajax and I will never forget the fantastic support from the fans. Once Ajax, forever Ajax” emphasized in his farewell words the former coach of the Greek national team, with the technical director of Ajax, Alex Cross adding:
“John came through last season as manager under very difficult circumstances, which helped us enormously, and for that we are incredibly grateful.
Unfortunately, his role this season hasn’t panned out the way either of them had envisioned. We talked about it openly with each other and agreed that it is best that we part ways. We part on good terms.
John remains a true Ajax fan and will always be welcome at the club. I wish him every success in the future.”
