English fans who were at the OAKA for the match against the national team accused the Greek police of unjustified violent treatment, according to Sky Sports. The FA has launched an investigation into the case.
About 3,000 English fans were at OAKA to support their national team in the match against Greece.
According to the Sky Sports Three Lions fans accused the Greek police of “brutal treatment” and tear gas use before the match.
As specifically stated, until the start of the match many of the fans had not managed to enter the stadium and in his testimonies they mention that they were pushed against shields, while tear gas was also used.
The case is being investigated by the FA and tthe Football Supporters’ Association (FSA), while UEFA is also aware.
The FA said: “We are aware that some of our fans have had a difficult experience away from the pitch and we are gathering more information about exactly what happened.”
For its part, the FSA in its announcement states: “Unfortunately, once again, we have to ask England fans to send us their testimonies about the situation outside the Olympic Stadium in Athens.
Despite being told how things would work beforehand, seeing the exact opposite happen in some cases, and seeing our fans treated by local police using shields and tear gas to do something as simple as rearranging a queue, it’s incredible. disappointing.
On a night where we had a great result on the pitch, so much more is required to ensure our fans are not put in unduly dangerous situations. We keep trying.”
