Luka Doncic was briefly stripped of the Mavericks’ last defense and paid the price as his marker – John Collins – took Jordan Clarkson’s pass and dunked, eventually giving the Jazz the win against the Mavericks.
The Jazz beat the Mavericks 115-113 despite Luka Doncic’s 37 points. The Slovenian was amazing. But he was also the fatal one for his team in the end, since he “fell asleep” in the defense in the most critical phase of the match.
Specifically, with the score at 113-113 (after a three-pointer by Klay Thompson, assisted by Doncic), the Jazz had the next attack. Jordan Clarkson took the ball. Doncic marked John Collins, expecting the Jazz big man to step up to screen Clarkson, and stood further away from him so he was ready to go up. But the Slovenian turned his back on the ball and paid for it.
The reason is that Clarkson read this and passed to an untroubled Collins, who nailed it for 115-113, which was to be the final score.
