Diego Forlan has left football behind and at the age of 45 he made the big decision to make his debut as a professional tennis player, but without tasting the joy of success.

When hearing Diego Forlan, the vast majority of fans will think of him from his action on grass, with the Uruguayan forward playing for more than 20 years and even wearing the shirts of very big and historic clubs, such as Manchester United , Atletico and Inter.

In 2019, at the age of 40, he decided to hang up his football boots, but he did not want to say goodbye to sports for good, after he went out the door and returned through the window, starting a career in tennis.

In particular, the 45-year-old former footballer took part in the doubles at the Uruguay Open (is an ATP Challenger Tour event, a rung below the main ATP Tour) in Montevideo together with Argentine Federico Coria, having received a wild card.

However, their experience at the event was very short-lived, as they ran into Bolivians Boris Arias and Federico Thembayos and could not resist, losing 6-1, 6-2 in just 47 minutes.

“Everyone starts to speculate when you start a new career, don’t they? The next thing I have to do is play, enjoy it and compete at ITF level, where there is really good competition.

The truth is that this is all an enjoyable experience for me.” stressed Forlan after the match, who despite his defeat became the object of deification, with several local fans asking him to take pictures with them and sign autographs.
