Orbelin Pineda appeared satisfied with his presence in AEK in an interview he gave to a television medium of his home country while he made it clear that Matias Almeida has his mind only on the Union and how he will win other titles with it.
Orbelin Pineda is one of the most popular footballers in his country in recent years and on Monday night he gave an interview to the Mexican television network “TUDN” where he had the opportunity to talk about his career so far and his presence at AEK in last 2.5 years.
The 28-year-old midfielder made it clear that both he and Matias Almeida are having a good time in the Union, while responding to the rumors about Chivas’ interest in “Pelados”, while he also spoke about the differences between Greek and Mexican football and about his own future.
Read excerpts from Pineda’s interview:
On his life in Athens as an AEK player: “Feel very well. It was a city I didn’t know. Now I’m living this moment and this culture and I’m living it to the fullest.”
On the coaching future of Matias Almeidas and the rumors about Chivas: “I was talking to him about the rumors about Chivas and I asked him what was going on and if he was going to leave and he said “no, I’m still here, I’m firm with my decision”. I who know him well, he continues to work and wants more. In the end we are one team, we continue in the same direction and he has the desire to win the title, as always.
Yes, he misses Chivas, he always shared and conveyed to all Mexicans how he feels about Chivas and the love he has for them. It’s good for him, he’s had a good story, he’s won championships, he’s grateful for what he’s done and what he’s been able to give them.”
On the most difficult period of his career: “The worst moment for me was Telta. I was coming from Cruz Azul, where I was competing and one would think that I would always start and be competitive, but they didn’t count on me. It was a tough time, but it’s something you always want to overcome. I didn’t want to be in Europe just for a ride. I wanted to prove things and take advantage of it. There I was not given the opportunity I expected, but we continue here.”
On the difference between Mexican and Greek football: “OR the only difference is that in Greek football you have the opportunity to compete in the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League. You play in your league so you can have a big chance next year. This gives you an extra incentive in the league, where you really compete to have something nice as a pro. I’m not underestimating our league, we know it’s great and there are very good players, most of whom are international.”
On his own football future: “If I knew what was going to happen tomorrow I would have told you! I think the footballer lives in the moments. I try to make the most of every day.”
