Christos Zafeiris spoke to SPORT24 after the defeat of the national team by England and explained where the game was decided, while he emphasized that Greece will give everything in the last game of the group against Finland on Sunday (17/11).

The Greek national team welcomed England to the packed OAKA, but were defeated 3-0 and now the Three Lions are the ones who now hold the 1st place in their hands.

Christos Zafeiris spoke to Maria Kouvelis and Stavros Liosi after the end of the match, stressing that the blue and white team will fight in the last game against Finland for victory, while he explained the point at which the match was decided.

His statements in detail:

The national team performed well for a long time, they did not manage to get the victory, what are your thoughts? Where was the game decided?

“I think in the beginning when they scored early they managed to open the game for them. We put ourselves in a more difficult position than we were. We had to, we fought, we did everything we could. Unfortunately it didn’t go the way we wanted today, but we keep believing in ourselves and trying to get better.”

The English were much more aggressive in the first half, we had a more lukewarm 45 minutes. What changed in the second half, because we saw a much more threatening national team, we had good chances to score, which, of course, didn’t come?

“Yes, unfortunately it didn’t come. We went in a little more aggressively, to try to push them a little higher. To make it a little more difficult for them to build up, so they couldn’t get out so easily and that was the reason why, especially at the beginning before the goal went in, we made some chances that we could have made it 1-1”.

Did Ivan Jovanovic say anything specific to you at halftime?

“To enter more dynamically, stronger in our duels and go a little higher”.

The people showed up, filled the OAKA. How did you welcome the presence of the world?

“It made us very happy and we really thank them very much. It was very nice for us. Unfortunately we couldn’t give them what they wanted, but I hope next time they will be here, they will support us like they did today and it was fantastic.”

An important battle was lost, the war was not lost, there is still an important game against Finland. How easy is it to regroup and go for the win in the next match?

“We will do everything we can in the next two days, prepare 100% and go for the win again on Sunday and finish the group strongly.”
