The FIA and Formula 1 have announced the timings for qualifying and the GP at Interlago, Brazil on Sunday (3/11), after Saturday’s qualifying was postponed due to the storm that hit the Sao Paulo circuit.

Brazilian GP marshals waited almost two hours for the heavy rain that hit Interlago to stop on Saturday afternoon (2/11), before finally reaching the decision to postpone qualifying until Sunday morning.

Since tomorrow it is expected to rain all day in Sao Paulo, for two hours the FIA and Formula 1 were meeting for tomorrow’s program taking into account the meteorological forecast that the strongest storm would hit Sao Paulo at the time (19:00) which was GP scheduled.

So, they decided that the ranking tests will take place at 12:30 noon (Greece time)whereas the match will start an hour and a half earlier than the original plan, that is at 17:30.

According to Formula 1 regulations, qualifying must be finished at least 3 hours before the start of the GP. Of course, as unstable and unpredictable as the weather is these three days in Interlago, it is possible that there will be further delays tomorrow.

The FIA and Formula 1 joint statement reads: “After the conditions that prevailed today in Shao Pauloit was decided not to continue the Qualifying process due to low visibility, standing water on the track and fading light.

Safety is always the absolute priority in such cases and while as much time as possible was given to improve conditions, unfortunately this did not happen. We extend our huge appreciation to all the fans who stayed at the track in the hope of seeing the cars in action today.

Therefore, after consultation with the stewards, it was decided to schedule the Qualifying for 07:30 local time (12:30 Greek time) on Sunday morning, before the start of the Grand Prix at 12:30 local time (17:30 Greek time).

This will ensure we maximize the chances of giving fans an action-packed day, taking into account the weather forecast for Sunday afternoon, and both the FIA and Formula 1 believe this time change is necessary and the right thing for everyone our passionate fans.

We thank everyone for their patience today, including the fans, drivers, teams, judges, track staff and media, and we hope to give everyone an exciting show on Sunday.”
