FIFA is on the verge of a big addition that will change football, as the FIFA refereeing committee chairman Pierluigi Collina has revealed that the world football’s governing body is considering the introduction of the right to “challenge”.

VAR is by far the biggest addition to football in recent years, with IFAB (FIFA’s refereeing committee) working out new changes to the “King of Sports”.

One of them was revealed by the chairman of the committee in question, Pierluigi Collinawith the Italian stating that FIFA envisages allowing coaches to do “challenge” decisions of the referees during the match.

The “challenge” in soccer has already been tested at the U17 and U21 Women’s World Cups, wanting to examine its influence on the game and improve any omissions or mistakes.

The “challenge” it will work like in volleyball and basketball, where players have the ability to advise their coaches if a phase has been called wrong, with the coaches exercising their right and the referee’s original decision being changed.

“Coaches will have the right to ask for a challenge. The number will be limited, so they have to be very careful. They will also be able to use it at the end of a match as a last chance to win something from a game, but it does not mean that they will definitely benefit.

We are still at the beginning and there have been some trials at the U17 and U20 Women’s World Cups. Careful analyzes are being done, but so far we have not noticed anything unusual. If the IFAB gives us the OK then it will be done in other competitions as well”, Colina told ESPN.
