Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender and now a football pundit, has identified two Manchester United players that he believes should be sold if the club, under new manager Ruben Amorim, is to build a successful team.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag as Manchester United’s head coach in November, has had a challenging start to his tenure, with the team securing three wins, one draw, and suffering two losses in his first few matches. Despite showing glimpses of promise, United is currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table after 15 games, far from the club’s expectations of competing at the top of the league.

Carragher’s comments likely reflect the ongoing struggles at Manchester United under Amorim’s management. Despite his early days in charge, it is clear to the new manager that significant changes are needed to bring the club back into contention for top-tier success. Carragher’s analysis suggests that moving on from certain players could be crucial in Amorim’s efforts to find a winning formula and rebuild the team.

Given the current situation at Manchester United, which includes poor results and a lack of cohesion on the field, Carragher is likely advocating for a more ruthless approach to the club’s squad—identifying players who might be hindering the team’s progress rather than helping it. These players could be seen as underperforming or not fitting into Amorim’s vision for the future. By offloading such individuals, the club would have the resources to invest in players who are better suited to helping United challenge for titles once again.

Although Carragher did not specify the two players he believes should be sold, it’s possible he is referring to individuals who have struggled for consistency or failed to live up to expectations at United in recent years. In any case, the message is clear: for Manchester United to return to the top of English football, a significant overhaul may be necessary, starting with player departures.

Amorim, who has earned praise for his work at Sporting CP, must now figure out the right strategy for restoring Manchester United’s former glory. With a mid-table standing and the team already knowing how far they are from the top, the pressure is on to make key decisions regarding the squad, and the sale of certain players might be the first step toward rebuilding.
