Freddie Guarin has revealed the alcohol problem he faced in the past, which was to “derail” his career, as well as put his own life in great danger.

Freddie Guarin has made a shocking confession about his career-long battle with alcohol, in which he says he was the loser, both professionally and personally.

In fact, the former Inter Milan player revealed that a year before he retired from football – while intoxicated – he tried to end his life by falling from a balcony.

The Colombian’s statements in detail:

“Initially, at Inter I managed the situation very well: I got drunk two days before a match, then I went out on the pitch, scored a goal or two, the team won. I think it all started from a lack of perception. I drank at home, at the disco, at the restaurant. I already had my family and that was bad because I knew I was making mistakes, both at work and in my family obligations. I failed in all my goals, both football and personal.

He was completely controlled by alcohol, they came to tell me through my agent that I couldn’t stay in Milan any longer: “You have to get him out of here, now”

For the 2019/20 season, he was in Brazil as a Vasco da Gama player: “The first six months made me feel like the happiest person in the world. Then came Covid, the separation from my wife… I drank 50, 60 or 70 beers in one night. The pandemic arrived, there were no trainings, there was no team, there was no football.

I looked for the danger, the adrenaline, I wanted to see the guns, the traffic in the favelas, I wasn’t worried about anything. It was hard times, I was completely drunk for 10 days, I would sleep from exhaustion and wake up with a beer next to me. I lived on the 17th floor and cut myself off from life, from everything, my reaction was to fall off the balcony. But there was a net, I jumped and it sent me back, apparently I didn’t notice. I didn’t understand what I did, I don’t know what happened.

I got to the point where I didn’t care about anything anymore, just so I could hurt myself. My testimony is God’s will and I know it will reach many corners of the world, touch many hearts and certainly save human lives.”
