SCUDERIA FERRARI PRESS OFFICE

Scuderia Ferrari has given the green light for Carlos Sainz to drive a Williams car for the first time at the Abu Dhabi test on December 10 – ahead of his move to the Grove team in 2025.

The Spaniard is under contract with Ferrari until the end of 2024, but in a goodwill gesture towards the Spaniard – who turned down the ’25 in favor of Lewis Hamilton – he was allowed to join his new team in testing after the last this year’s Abu Dhabi GP (November 6-8).

Recently, we recall, it was finalized that Mercedes did not – accordingly – allow Hamilton to drive for the first time for Ferrari in Abu Dhabi on December 10. So the Scuderia is leaning toward a decision to offer one or two days of testing with older cars to the Briton in early 2025, ahead of development testing of the new cars in Bahrain at the end of February.

Back to Saint, then, the Spaniard will have the opportunity to drive this year’s Williams FW46 in the Yas Marina tests, as the English team officially announced, so that “to take his first steps in his preparation for the new year”.

We remind you that in the Abu Dhabi tests, a few hours after the finale of this year’s season at the same track, the teams must have in one of their two cars a debutant driver, who has not started more than 2 Formula 1 GPs.

Saint will therefore take Alex Albon’s place in these tests, while it remains unknown who will be the rookie driving the other Williams FW46 there. In addition to Sainz, Esteban Ocon will also make his debut with his new team, Haas, in the Abu Dhabi test, and Nico Hulkenberg will probably also make his debut with Sauber.
