‘We can be part of something special, the most important thing is to get an identity’

Ruben Amorim has already rolled up his Manchester United sleeves ahead of his debut next Sunday (24/11, 18:30) against Ipswich.

In his first interview as manager of the Red Devils, the 39-year-old coach spoke about the team’s history that convinced him to accept their offer but also about being called upon to manage a young roster.

Among other things, Amorim stated that:

“I accepted the offer from Manchester United also because of the history of the club. We can be part of something special. That’s something I really like.

The most important thing for me is identity. So from day one we will start with our identity, from the first game. How to play, how to press, those little things, little details. So if I have to say one thing, my main goal, my first goal, is identity.”

For his designs: “You will definitely see an idea from a tactical point of view. You may like it, you may not – you will see the placement, which is what we want to get to this level.”

On having a young roster: “I don’t want to say we need time just because we are a young team. They are prepared to cope with the demands of playing for Manchester United – it should be because they are here.”.
