Canucks Forward On Buffalo’s Radar

The Buffalo Sabres are reportedly interested in a notable Vancouver Canucks forward.

According to RG’s James Murphy, an NHL source informed him that the Buffalo Sabres are one of the teams that have shown interest in Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood. 

“I was told the Islanders, Sabres, and Red Wings also expressed interest in Sherwood, too,” Murphy’s source said. 

When looking at the Sabres’ forward group, it is understandable that they have Sherwood on their radar. If they acquired him, he would not only give them more secondary scoring but also more bite. With this, he would have the potential to an excellent addition to their top nine if acquired. 

Sherwood is having a strong season for the Canucks in 2024-25, recording 12 goals, 16 points, and 110 hits in 27 games thus far. This is after he set career highs with 19 goals, 21 assists, 40 points, and an NHL-record 462 hits in 78 games this past season. With numbers like these, he would certainly give the Sabres’ forward group a nice boost if brought in. 

However, it is also important to note that Sherwood is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) due for a raise from his current $1.5 million cap hit. Thus, the Sabres acquiring Sherwood would only make sense if they are in a playoff spot and/or a contract extension is part of the deal.
